The visionary behind its creation was Maharaja Mummudi Krishnaraja Wadiyar of Mysore, who intended to honor the substantial European community dwelling in Mysore during the 19th century. In response to the expanding European populace, the imperative for a more spacious church became evident. Consequently, in October 1933, under the auspices of the reigning monarch at the time, Krishnarajendra Wadiyar of Mysore, the cornerstone for the new cathedral was laid.

Crafted by a French architect named Daly, the church's design was conceived in the Neo-Gothic fashion, drawing inspiration from the famed Cologne Cathedral.
